The Acai Fruit

The acai fruit is rich in:

  • anthocyanin

  • omega fats

  • protein

  • calcium

  • phosphorus

  • fiber

  • vitamin E

Interestingly enough, it contains the SAME amount of calcium and protein as cow’s milk!

Medical benefits:

Promotes healthy cholesterol levels, reduces inflammation, increases energy.

The phytochemical anthocyanin acts as a very powerful antioxidant in the body. It prevents blood-vessel damage.

In studies it has also shown a positve effect on diabetes and on eyesight.

Studies have also been done with anthocyanin and cancer. Anthocyanin has showed a positive effect on tumor reduction.

More acai berry information:

It is a small, round, dark purple fruit with one proportionally large seed in the middle. It looks like a berry or like a small purple grape. This fruit grows in the Amazon rainforest in Brazil. It plays a very important role in the diet of the people who live there.

If you live outside of Brazil, you will probably never eat the fresh fruit, because as they are high in (healthy) fat, they have a short "shelf-life. They need to be eaten the same day or maximum one day after they are picked.

There are some companies who freeze the pulp just after the fruit is picked, and export it. That is why you might see acai juice in the stores, but you won’t find the fresh fruit elsewhere in the world.
