Calories In Fruit? Calories in fresh fruit...

There are calories in fruit, like in anything else you would eat.

But you do not have to worry so much about the calorie content of fruits, just leave those chips (470 calories/100 g) off the menu instead!

Vegetables have even a lower amount of calories than fruits do, so when eating vegetables you don't have to worry at all!

But now we are talking about fruits...

Not many of the calories there are in fruit are from fat. For example out of the 45 calories there is in a small/medium tangerine, only 2 of those calories are from fat. Compare this to a handful (1 oz/28 grams) of cashew nuts with 156 calories, where 112 of those calories are from fat. Despite this fact, cashews are nutritious though, so don't get me wrong! The fat in nuts is of the healthy kind, and not at all like the fat you find in for example cakes or meat.

When you eat lots of fruit - whole or in smoothies - you will naturally eat less of other foods.

You will be less likely to crave candies or soda when you have frequent fruit snacks throughout the day.

Calories in fresh fruit vs. calories in dried fruit Most fresh fruits are low in calories, except for avocados. Dried fruits are high in calories.

Calories in whole fruit vs. calories in fruit juice

Whole fruits are lower in calories than fruit juice.

An orange has about 65 calories, while a glass of orange juice has 112 calories... A cup or 165 grams of pineapple has 82 calories, while a glass of pineapple juice has 140 calories...

Which fruits are lowest in calories?

Here are some examples of fruits with a low calorie amount, but with a high nutrition content:

  • apricots

  • blueberries

  • guava

  • kiwi

  • strawberries

One apricot has just 15-20 calories, depending on the size of it. It is also loaded with vitamins and minerals.

The rest of the fruits and berries on that list are all low in calories.

Fruit Calories

When searching the net for calories in fruit, you will come across many pages and all will have a slightly different number as an answer to

"how many calories is there in a...". This is because fruits vary in size.

Let's look at the calorie amount in a few common fruits (all medium sized).

Calories

1 medium Apple 72 (a very small apple or 100 gram has 55 calories)

1 Apricot 15

1 Avocado 280

1 Banana 97

Blueberries (3.5 oz/100 grams) 46

Cantaloupe (1 cup, diced/156 grams) 56

1 Grapefruit 80 - 3.5 oz/100 grams of grapefruit has 30 calories

1 Guava 30

1 Kiwi 48

1 Orange 59 - a very large orange can have up to 100 calories though, and 100 grams of orange contains 45 calories.

Pear (large) 98 - a small pear or 122 grams has 54 calories, 100 grams pear contains 47 calories

Pineapple (1 cup/165gram) 82

Raspberries (1 cup/123 gram) 64 One raspberry only contains 1.1 calories.

Grapes (1 cup/151 grams) 62 One grape has about 3 calories.

Strawberries (1 cup or about 150 grams) 45

Per 3.5 oz or 100 grams they contain 38 calories. One strawberry has about 2.7 calories.

When you chew, swallow and digest the fruit you eat, at least 15 of the calories will go to that.

If you then additionally walk or do some light housework immediately after eating, the rest of the calories will not even have a small chance of getting stored in a fat cell.

--------------------------------------------------------------

If you are on a raw food diet you eat loads of fruit. But in that case you basically don't have to think about the calories in fruit, except maybe if you love those avocados!

If you are on a regular cooked food diet and eat a lot of fruit, that’s great! Because that way chances are you will have less of an appetite for candy and other junk foods.
