Calories,Fat,Cholesterol,Sodium,
Carbs,Sugar,Protein

by Blanche Obdens
(Lowell, Ma)

I would like to know about the above listed items. I am on Jenny Craig Diet and have lost thirty pounds, however have a ways to go and need to know my daily intake on the above list.

I mostly eat fresh apples, oranges and bananas. Sometimes I purchase the no sugar added canned fruits but the nutrition facts are on them.

Thank You for whatever help you can give me.

Thanks for your question Blanche!

Hi Blanche! Congratulations to your weight loss!

It is not very easy to give a good answer to your question, because of you are following a diet that I am not familiar with. Is it possible that you ask the founder or customer support of the Jenny Craig Diet program?

But from what I understood from the Jenny Craig website is that the diet consists of ready made menus? And these food groups are included: fruits and vegetables and whole grains, reduced fat milk, meat, poultry, fish, eggs, beans and nuts.

In dairy products and meat you will find unhealthy fats so when/if you get off this diet in the future, I would recommend that you try to limit your intake of those - if you are concerned about the "bad" cholesterol. Or you could even eliminate them totally from your diet if you can.

You could increase your fruit and vegetable intake instead. Eat many different kinds of fruits, including mangoes, papaya, different kinds of melon, berries and bananas are good and apples and oranges too (those you mentioned that you already eat).

Raw baby spinach and all different kinds of kale are health bombs you shouldn't miss :) And of course tomatoes and carrots are very healthy. They are best eaten together, because like I mentioned on the vegetable nutrition facts page, the tomato's lycophene helps with the absorption the carrot's beta carotene!

The RDI (recommended daily intake) of the items you listed, if you eat a 2000 calorie diet, are:

Calories 2000
Fat 65 grams (g)
Cholesterol 300 milligrams (mg)
Sodium 2300 milligrams (mg)
Carbs 300 grams (g)
Protein 50 grams (g)

The sugar recommendation is more complex. I would leave all added sugar out of your diet. The AHA recommends women to consume less than 5 teaspoons or 20 grams of sugar daily. Another source says the daily intake of sugar should be no more than 90 grams, but these 90 grams should be INCLUDED in the recommended total daily carbohydrate intake - not in addition to it.

Some page on this site you might want to read:
