Daily Vitamin Supplements

Do you need to take daily vitamin supplements?

As you might guess, I think the best way to get vitamins and minerals is directly from fresh fruits and vegetables.

You just can't get the same benefits by eating a daily vitamin nutrition supplement. So my answer to the question above is: no, you don't need to take vitamin supplements daily if you eat fruits and veggies every day.

Are vitamin supplements really necessary?
Well, it depends on if you have a deficiency or not. If you take supplements without having a deficiency, and do this for many years it could be quite harmful. So check with your doctor first!

There are some vitamins, like folic acid, a water soluble B vitamin present in for example spinach, where supplementation would be wise (at least for women) - as it is quite hard to get the daily folic acid requirement from foods alone.

If you are a vegetarian B12 is also a good supplement to take.

I also give my son, and occasionally myself, a daily omega 3 supplement. Research has shown that Omega 3 is very good for developing brains as well as the memory and concentration part in adult brains. This oil cannot be found in much else than fish, so if you don’t eat much fish a supplement is a solution.

Another supplement that is important during the winter months is vitamin D.

Best Childrens Vitamin

The website of Vitamin World (visit it by clciking on the link above) is very organized with the major categories in the Navigation Menu at the left, which makes the site easy to use. If you click on "View All Categories" you can find all categories they have, and for example under C you can find Children's Products. There you can also find the best kids vitamin and mineral supplement in my opinion which is "Organic Yummi Bears". It is a multi vitamin and mineral supplement with 16 essential vitamins and minerals :)

Vitamin Supplements

At Green Barley if you go to the "Vitamins" section, you can find a really nice supplement called "Natures Sunshine Super Supplemental Vitamins And Minerals". Taking this type of vitamin supplement (Natures Sunshine at Green Barley) at times when you feel your body needs more nutrients or when you feel stressed, would maybe not be such a bad idea. As this vitamin supplement contains 12 vitamins and 12 minerals and even some phytochemicals(!), it is for sure one of the better nutrition supplements or even daily vitamin supplements to consider.


Are vitamin supplements beneficial?
Yes, some vitamin supplements are for sure beneficial and good to take. But the healthiest choice would be to eat lots and lots of fruits and vegetables - every day. Eating a synthetic powder is just not the same thing.

But of course if you feel you are not eating enough fruits and vegetables and if you are unsure of which vitamins you are not getting enough of, you could talk to a dietitian or a nutritionist. She or he could for sure advice you if you need to take a daily vitamin supplement or not, depending on how you current eating habits look like.

RDI of Vitamins and Minerals

The recommended daily intake of a few minerals and vitamins:

Potassium 3500 mg, magnesium 350 mg, Iron 15 mg, calcium 1000 mg

Vitamin E 10 mg, vitamin C 75 mg, vitamin B6 2 mg, vitamin B5 6 mg, vitamin B3 18 mg, vitamin B2 1,6 mg, vitamin B1 1,4 mg

I'm sure you will really love fruits and veggies after going through all the info you find on this website. And then you will eat much more of than as you used to, and maybe after a while you can skip the supplement :)

Vitamin C Fruit

Vitamin C is one of those vitamins that are readily available in most fruits, so no need to take daily vitamin supplements there. To get your vitamin C from fruits you can eat strawberries, kiwis and all kinds of citrus fruits daily.



Top: a good way to get lots of vitamins and minerals every day is to fill your fruit and vegetable juicer with fruits, berries and veggies and make delicious juices for yourself. Smoothies that you make at home are great too :)
