Nutrition Facts about Chocolate Chocolate - good or bad nutrition?
Many claim that the cocoa bean chocolate is made of is actually good for us, but be careful... most of the people saying this are affiliates or selling something like raw chocolate, a cocoa powder supplement or just regular chocolate.
As you will learn in the video found on this page, cocoa only has mild health benefits - similar to alcohol. In the long run chocolate is bad for you. It is just not healthy (for example for our liver) to eat chocolate regularly. There are other foods you could eat that are much better for you and have no side effects.
Nutrition Facts About Chocolate
Chocolate contains theobromin (also found in tea leaves and cola nuts). Theobromin can cause calcium, vitamin B, potassium and magnesium loss. Caffeine also causes the same problems, so coffee and energy drinks would also be something to avoid if you want your body to be healthy.
The cocoa bean, which is turned into powder and used as one of the ingredients in chocolate, is also very addictive. You might even have noticed this at least once in your life? I know I have!
And of course chocolate also contains a lot of sugar. As you probably know, sugar can contribute to a lot of different health problems, and like cocoa, sugar is highly addictive...
Diana Stoevelaar from AwesomeRawsome says cocoa is a toxic substance and that we should not believe in all the hype surrounding raw chocolate or other cocoa products - such as raw coca nibs sold in health food stores.
There are many other professionals in the health food field that have said cocoa and chocolate in general is an addictive stimulant, nothing more.
Here is an interesting video where John and Jeremy talk about the nutrition facts about chocolate along with the dark side effects of chocolate.
Is cacao bad for your liver?
Jeremy explains why chocolate (raw and regular!) causes mood swings and why consuming cacao every day for long periods of time can be bad for your liver.
Quite a while ago I noticed Benji was addicted to chocolate. He would be really moody when I picked him up from school and would always drag me straight to the food store. Once we were there he always wanted a chocolate bar. The times I did not let him have one, he became very angry. At that time he was eating chocolate every day.
Luckily, for a while now he has not been eating chocolate, and most of the time it almost seems like he has forgotten about chocolate all together. But then some days he will look at me accusingly and say "Hey, I didn't eat chocolate for eeeeever! That means I get to have extra much the next time we are at the store".
I wish he could just somehow understand that it is not a treat or something good to buy and eat chocolate, instead it is just bad for him. I don't know why I let him have it in the first place, I must have been crazy!
Do you have any experience with chocolate addiction?
I'm sure you can help others by sharing, so let's hear it!
