Nutrition Facts About Food
Nutrition facts about food - On this website I write about food nutrition facts. And right here on this page I will go over the benefits of adding spices and herbs to your food. Did you know that spices and herbs are full of antioxidants and phytonutrients?
What are Phytonutrients?Phytonutrients are discussed in the media frequently today. This is because research has proven the importance of phytonutrients in the prevention of deadly diseases, such as all forms of cancer. Phytonutrients scour the body looking for free radicals that cause early aging and disease. Once they find these free radicals, they attack them to keep them from harming the body. A diet rich in foods containing phytonutrients is an essential part of preventing a whole host of life-threatening diseases.
Salvia (sage), cinnamon, ginger, rosemary, oregano, turmeric, cayenne and garlic are among the healthiest ones.Spices are very powerful, and you don't have to eat a lot of them to feel the positive health effects. Eating too much of them can actually cause problems, such as heartburn from too much cayenne pepper. So just use them as they are supposed to be used as - a spice on food. About half a teaspoon of any spice on a meal should be just fine. Now fresh herbs are a little different and can be eaten in larger amounts if you like. Spices and herbs have been used as natural remedies for centuries. And recently lots of studies have been done on spices and many positive results have come out of them. For example a study by University of California, Los Angeles published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, says that when you add spices and herbs to meat, the spices and herbs reduce the amount of of carcinogens present in the meat once grilled. The grilled meat with the added spices and herbs had lower levels of malondialdehyde and the people who ate the meat had lower DNA breaks in their cells after having eaten the meat. Malondialdehyde are dangerous carcinogenic compounds. They cause toxic stress in cells. The antioxidants in spices reduce this stress. Here is the spice and herb mixture recipe: rosemary, ginger, oregano and black pepper.
