Nutrition for Kids

Find nutrition for kids info / childrens nutrition information here,
plus some yummy recipes!

Attention Kids!
Let me have some of your precious time and talk to you a little about healthy eating habits.

You love foods that taste good, right? Almost anything that tastes sweet... But you know that sugar is not very healthy, don't you?

You need enough nutrients to grow and stay healthy. Eating fruits and vegetables, like apple, mango, banana, fresh spinach and carrots is the best way to get these nutrients.

Eating while watching cartoons is not always the best thing to do, you know why? Because when doing that, you might not notice how fast the food you have on your plate disappears, because you pay so much attention to the cartoon. And you go and get more food, not because you are hungry, but because you want to have something to do while watching.

A solution to this would be to eat something that is healthy (but still good) while watching your cartoons, like grapes or berries. Or any kind of fruits really!

Here are some foods or food ingredients you should try not to eat that much of. They are commonly found in cookies, cake, chips, muffins, hamburgers...

Sugar and Salt
Sugar is really bad for your teeth and for your body. Salt is also not very good for you.

Unhealthy Fats
There are unhealthy fats in for example fast food, some candies, desserts, cakes and in some cereals or other foods you would buy at the supermarket. Always look for the word hydrogenated on the food label. If you find that word on the ingredients label on something you are thinking of buying, then don't! Even if it says partially hydrogenated, it is still as bad as hydrogenated oils.

Trans fats are also a big no-no. If you find the word Trans Fat and a percentage next to it, look for something else to buy.

Healthy Fats
Use olive oil is an example of a healthy fat that is very good for us. Extra virgin olive oil is the best one.

The fat in nuts and in for example the avocado is the kind of fat that is very healthy for you and even necessary for our brain and body.

Hey, why don't you instead of eating candy and chips, eat fruits?
Fruits are sooo good for you and they totally free from table sugar, salt and bad fats.

Organic
When buying fruits, it is always best to buy organic. But this is not always practically possible though. Organic fruits and vegetables have not been sprayed with chemicals, so if you have an alternative, go organic!

Eating Fruit
Kids, tell your parents that they should let you eat fruit before dinner!!! It does not ruin your appetite, like they sometime say.

Eating fruit before dinner is a great way of getting lots of vitamins and minerals, because your tummy is empty and the vitamins can immediately be taken up by your body. If you would eat fruit for dessert, the vitamins would have a harder time to reach your bloodstream, because there would be so much other food (your dinner) in the way :)

Do you know what I want you to do now? Go to the kitchen and put all the junk food (cookies, chips, crisps, candy, sugar) you see into their right place… and that is? The garbage can! Well, ask your parents if it is OK to do that first. Tell them you would like your family to become a healthy family.

And tell your parents to buy lots of fruits every day, so you have healthy snacks readily available anytime you are hungry. No honey at home? Ask them to get some. Honey or agave syrup is very useful when making healthy snacks.

2.Do the same with the sun-dried tomatoes - soak for a few hours
3.Place the fresh tomatoes at the bottom of your blender. Blend for a few seconds. Then add the nuts. Blend until mixed. Now open the small top lid of the blender, add the sundried tomatoes one by one while blending at a low speed. When it looks like a think paste, it is done.
4.Now cut off the top of the bell peppers and stuff them with the yummy cashew-tomato paste.
