Pregnancy And Nutrition

- Here is a little on pregnancy and nutrition for you -

When I became pregnant in 2001, I started really thinking a lot about what I was eating. I wanted to make sure I ate the best way possible to help my baby thrive.

When I then finally had my little baby boy - it felt a little strange that when I ate now, the only one I was feeding was myself. But actually what I later learned it wasn't true. Because through breast milk my baby still got all of the nutrients I put into my system.

So eating healthy while pregnant and beyond is very important...

By eating healthy I mean eating lots of fruits and vegetables. More than you normally would eat. Because at this point of time in your life, your body and the other tiny body you carry inside of you, needs all the nutrients found in fruits and veggies.. and if you can, buy organic produce to make sure you don't get any unnecessary toxins into your system.

Folic Acid is very important when you are pregnant and even before getting pregnant. It is hard to get enough folic acid from food sources unless you eat LOADS of greens. You can also supplement you diet with folic acid by taking a prenatal vitamin.

When I was pregnant I was given prenatal vitamins by my doctor. She told me to take one pill before I eat anything else in the morning. I did this for a few days, but every time I took this vitamin pill, I started feeling really sick... and after just a little while I threw up...

So I changed the time I took the supplement until a little later in the day - after breakfast. After that I had no problems at all anymore.

What I learned there is that it is important to listen to your body, and never continue something that does not feel good.

Another good supplement to think about getting is a (pure) omega 3 supplement. This will greatly help your babies brain develop, and it will be present in your breast milk if you continue the supplementation once the baby is out.
