Vitamin D Deficiency And Overdose
A vitamin D deficiency leads to fragile bones that easily gets fractures. Low calcium absorption and a low immune system can be other deficiency signs.Babies and small children need a lot of vitamin D as their bones grow so fast. And if you live in a cold climate, be sure to supplement your food with vitamin D. Vitamin D Overdose If you suspect any vitamin overdose, consult a doctor. Overdose signs show themselves as dehydration and/or constipation. With a simple blood test he/she can check how much of each vitamin you have in your blood and he will let you know if the levels are safe or not. It is not very easy to overdose on vitamin D though. When we are outside a sunny day and expose our skin to the sun, we get much more vitamin D than it had been known until now. Probably even as much as 20 000 IU. But this much vitamin D is not safe to take orally in one day though. Safe amounts would be anywhere from 800 (or lower) up to 2000 IU. Many people believe that the RDA of vitamin D is set way too low, and to get the anti-cancer benefits we need to get much more than 800 IU each day. I always take different amounts of vitamin D, depending on if I have remembered to buy the supplement and of course also depending on the time of the year. Vitamin D really is an amazing vitamin. There is even now a study that says vitamin D keeps your brain from aging! Sounds good to me :) References: Dr Bill Sears.
